Family Living in Sunny Style

Imagine, a creek meandering through your neighbourhood, and yet, you are only 15 minutes from Toronto's financial district by car, and easy access to major highways. This is Sunnylea, an idyllic neighbourhood especially for those who appreciate its country charm with mature trees and no sidewalks!

The area used to be a single property with acres of fruit orchards! On Prince Edward Drive and Islington Avenue, you can still find a few of the original farmhouses. Today, the neighbourhood is made up of homes built in the 1940s and 1950s - split-level, bungalows, and Tudor Revival (or mock Tudor). These are bungalows built in the late 1940s.

Sunnylea truly is the perfect place for all ages, with many nearby parks, a public swimming pool, tennis courts, and a winter arena. The Brentwood Public Library offers year-round programs for children. Norseman and Park Community Schools both provide a wide variety of recreational programs for children, teens, adults and seniors. Norseman has an indoor pool for aquafit and instructional swim programs. Park Lawn has an outdoor swimming pool and a winter ice arena that converts to tennis courts in the summertime. One of my favourite Sunnylea parks is Spring Garden, nestled on the west bank of Mimico Creek with old shade trees and a children's playground.

Sunnylea residents shop along the Kingsway at Bloor Street, which features a variety of specialty shops, bakeries, fine restaurants, boutiques and professional services. Two of my favourite places to eat are Creme de la Creme Cafe and Merlot.

The area is especially popular with young families because of several good schools nearby. Seniors also love the area. At Sunnylea's Fairfield Seniors' Centre there's a lounge, library, and special events like BBQs, flea markets, and pub nights.

Schools in the area and close by include:
