Have you been thinking about trying to live a more sustainable lifestyle?
We asked the experts for ideas to help us and here are some great ways to save money & energy and live a more eco-friendly life. There are some great reminders and a few new ideas that can help you help us on our way.
Turn off the lights
💡Turning off your lights is one of the easiest ways to save some money and reduce your carbon footprint.
💡Want to take it a step further? Switch to LED lightbulbs
💡As the days get shorter don’t forget to pull back the drapes and open the blinds to let the sun in.
Reuse, reduce and recycle
Recycling is great but try to reduce what you are using first by reusing items you would normally throw away or recycle.
PRO TIP: Do you throw out your black plastic take-out containers? Are they piling up and you don’t know what to do with them? CASE is a company that resells your takeout black plastic take-out containers that come from restaurants, back to restaurants. Organic Garage in the Junction is a drop-off location.
Reduce your use of water
💧Turn the water off when you’re brushing your teeth.
💧Did you know running a dishwasher ½ empty is more efficient than washing a few dishes by hand?
💧Wash your clothes in cold water. Did you know that hot water will actually set some stains?
💧Fix leaky faucets. It will save you money AND it’s good for the environment.
Line dry your laundry
It’s easier on your clothes AND there’s nothing better than freshly laundered sheets that have been air-dried outside, right?
Use sustainable cleaning products
There are a ton of options out there. Think locally-made & ones that have refillable containers.
