Thorncrest Village
Toronto's First Modern Suburb

Step into the classic charm of Thorncrest Village, Toronto's first modern suburb. This handsome little community even has its own club house, and features street names like Pheasant Lane!

But don't think that this is a sleeply little village! Thorncrest boasts many sought-after amenities for busy families and individuals. Residents can drive downtown in 20 minutes, quickly reach the 401, or easily access both TTC and Mississauga transit and the airport. There are 3 parks in the area with an olympic size swimming pool, playgrounds and tennis courts. The Thorncrest Clubhouse hosts various annual events and community activities such as BBQs, holiday events and fairs.

Thorncrest Village was designed by an internationally renowned architect and town planner, Eugene Faludi in the 1940s who knew that curving streets and cul-de-sacs slowed traffic. He even laid out the streets mostly east to west to give the homes southern exposure. Today, a range of lovely homes, large two storey, ranch style bungalows, and a variety of styles grace its streets. I particularly love the cast-iron street lamps and wooden post signs that give it a classic country feel.

Even the shopping plazas in the area match Thorncrest's charm: Humbertown and Thorncrest have everything you need from banking, wine, food stores, to high-end fashion boutiques. Residents are also close to The Kingsway, as well as Bloor West Village shopping. If you're out walking, look for the original farm house, built in 1894. It was the summer home of Lieutenant Governor Sir William Pearce Howland and is set back from the street at 36 Rathburn Road.
