Norseman Heights

The quiet, family-friendly neighbourhood of Norseman Heights lies just a short walk from the corner of Islington and Bloor and the TTC’s east/west subway line. The community offers a wide variety of housing: bungalows, split-level style, 1 1/2 storey post-war homes and new custom-built homes. Most are on large lots with private driveways and attached garages. Streets are quiet because traffic flows down the main thoroughfares of Islington and Royal York. Families often choose quiet Chartwell Street, which runs parallel to Islington, to walk kids to nearby Norseman Junior Middle Public School.

The area offers amenities, parks, recreation and hidden gems for all ages. Those working downtown enjoy a short commute by car or public transit, and there is easy access to the Toronto International Airport. Even cyclists love this mid-south Etobicoke area because they can quickly reach the Humber Valley bicycle path that connects to the waterfront path at Lake Ontario.

Community services include Fairfield Seniors' Centre at the edge of Fairfield Park, offering swimming and adult aqua fitness. There’s also the Norseman Community Centre with sports, dance, music, fitness and pre-school programs. All ages and abilities can enjoy recreational and learn-to-swim time in the 250 meter pool.

Clearly a dog and kid friendly neighbourhood, there are three major parks. Fairfield Park has wide open space that is great for playing sports and a water park for the little ones. Laura Hill Park is centrally located and has two playgrounds, swing sets and its own tennis club and courts. Norseman Heights Park, located just south of the Junior Middle School, has baseball diamonds and a large soccer field.

The area also offers several well-regarded public schools, the highly regarded Etobicoke School of the Arts and Etobicoke Collegiate Institute are both located nearby.

In addition to the trendy shops of the Kingsway, area residents have access to a variety of retail and warehouse outlets to fit every taste. A favourite is nearby Dimpflmeier Bakery where some of the best German ryes and organic bread in the city is baked right on site. A coffee shop offers a place to sit and enjoy pastries and strudel while stocking up the freezer. Other local finds include European-style sausages and meats and outlet for The Butcher Shoppe. One of the most popular local hangouts is Artisano Bakery & Café, a favourite for all ages. Just a short distance further south to The Queensway, there is a large Odeon Cineplex and several family restaurants and pubs.
